THE SCENARIO: WASTE MANAGEMENT REVIEW OF A MULTINATIONAL AND MULTI-LINGUAL RETAIL PORTFOLIO
A multinational designer outlet group with locations across 8 countries within the United Kingdom, European Union and Canada, sought to conduct an in-depth waste management review of its portfolio. The Group utilised the lockdown period during the COVID-19 pandemic to gain critical insights into the waste performance of 19 of its 26 designer centres.
THE SOLUTION: WASTE MANAGEMENT REVIEW OF DATA COLLECTED
A specialised survey questionnaire was developed and sent to all 19 outlets. The information returned, along with relevant data and supporting documents, was translated into English to allow the Advance Reporting department at Don’t Waste to capture and create a uniform data set. The data was then analysed by our team of waste experts and a detailed waste management review report was generated.
THE RESULTS: COMPREHENSIVE INSIGHTS OF THE GROUP’S WASTE PERFORMANCE
The report presented a visual, complete, and transparent overview of the Group’s operations, costs and environmental footprint from a waste perspective. Further, the waste management review report contained substantial saving opportunities, trends, similarities, as well as outliers identified within the Group.
Don’t Waste used its findings to develop a group Waste Sustainability Benchmark Model, allowing for the comparison of key metrics from each outlet to the best practise benchmarks. Individual, detailed reports were developed for each centre outlining cost and environmental saving opportunities and distributed accordingly.
These best practice principals have now been expanded into a best practice guide for the entire Group, providing opportunities for further improvement.
